Uganda

When to go:
The best time to visit Uganda is late December to late February, as the weather at this time of year is generally dry (though hot). A close second is the mid-June to mid-August period. Don't even think about trekking outside of these dry months.

Events:
Uganda celebrates many Christian holidays, including Christmas, Easter and Good Friday. The Muslim population honors Islamic holidays, which follow the Muslim calendar. Ramadan is the fasting month. Women's Day takes place throughout the country in early March. There are also several holidays associated with independence and events during the civil wars: NRM Anniversary Day is 26 January, Martyrs' Day is 3 June, Heroes' Day is 9 June, and Independence Day is 9 October.

    "Gentle Giants" Gorilla Tracking

    Kampala/Bwindi

    Departure: Daily
    Duration: 5 Days

A stay in the Kampala Sheraton Hotel follows your arrival in Uganda, situated close to the city with easy access to the city centre and renowned for its high standards of quality and service. (This relaxing day will be needed for the exertion that Gorilla tracking will extol on your bodies, for which a high standard of physical fitness is essential.)

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is reached through a long drive, and is home to over half the world's population of Mountain gorillas. Uganda’s newest national park offers dramatic scenery and is incredibly dense, criss-crossed by animal tracks that allow access to tourists. Although the tracking exercise is very strenuous, the experience of viewing the gorillas in their natural habitat will be long savoured (although a maximum of 45 minutes is permitted to view these gentle creatures). Other primates are also abundant, including blue monkeys, red tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys and the great blue turacos are there for the bird watchers among you to marvel over.

Overnight stays will be spent in Buhoma homestead, which is just 300 metres from the forest edge, clean and authentically African.   Back to Top
